Sony DVDirect VRD-MC1

PC Magazine has given an Editor's Choice award and a rave review to the new Sony DVDirect VRD-MC, a DVD burner that lets you plug a camcorder or VCR directly into it AND watch what you're recording on a built-in 2" LCD screen. Pretty cool.

We just got one of these over the weekend and it is AWESOME! I started moving my old VHS tapes onto DVD. It is super easy to use, the quality is better than the VHS tape. I'm so happy to have these memories preserved.

Hi there... I'm using it to burn dvds directly from my camcorder, digital out to digital in.

I haven't tried playing the result on a normal dvd player, but on my pc, the output looks fine in the default size (using winDVD 7), but distorts and elongates when I maximize the screen. It looks odd regardless of the native resolution of the PC.

Anyone else have this problem, or know a workaround?

Thanko muchacho,

Hi all,
I use this to record direct from my camcorder. The output is indeed decent.

Problem: playing on a pc, the output looks elongated/distorted, when playing full screen. It looks fine if I just launch windvd or media player, and let it play at the default size. But unlike a commercial dvd, it doesn't go to full screen gracefully.

Anyone found a way around this problem?

If not, I thought you should know...
